Most important part of your healthy home:
The concrete foundation
is the most important structural element in your home and most home
owners are unable to see more then 20 % of it. The important thing
about the foundation is not that you are able to see it, it is that it
is protected correctly. Is there small cracks where run off water can
enter, is there adequate grading and properly maintained weeping tile
and a waterproof barrier?

Heat loss:
It is estimated that 1/3
of a homes heat loss is through poorly insulated and maintained
basements. The process of insulating the exterior of the foundation has
been recommended for years, and suggested by CMHC, but not implemented
by the new building industry until recently.

The loss of energy is
primarily from the frost level (4 feet below grade) to the joist line
that is typically 3 feet above grade. That is seven feet on a eight foot
foundation.
We can apply the superior
moisture and insulating technology into existing foundations when
scheduling a foundation repair..
Basement moisture
and insulation problems often include:
-
Foundation
cracks that leak.
-
Condensation
of the inside of the foundation.
-
Standing
water.
-
Efflorescence
(white, chalky stains).
-
Wet decaying
wood in contact with concrete.
-
Damp or
mouldy walls or floor.
-
Condensation
on windows, pipes and other fixtures.
-
Wet
insulation.
-
Moisture
damaged finishes.
-
Musty or damp
carpets.
-
High
humidity.
-
Stuffy, damp
smells.
-
Frost on
interior of concrete walls
-
Cold drafts
Basement insulation
and water proofing solutions:
Basement walls are
subject to moisture from both inside and outside the house. Insulating
the exterior of the foundation keeps it closer to room temperature,
protecting the structure, reducing the risk of interior condensation and
increasing comfort.
Interior insulation will
be used. This can be done when finishing the basement by using batt
insulation in the stud cavities.
Never apply interior
insulation to a basement with moisture problems. Fix the moisture entry
problems before insulating.
A
leaking basement is repaired at the same time using our exterior
insulation system. The method of exterior insulation cost is offset by
the fact that the foundation leaks be solved and future leaks are
prevented. The weeping tile and sump pumps can be addressed at the same
time.
This system of foundation
basement repair gives you the ability to increase the insulation in your
cold damp basement to a healthy, warm R-24. This is 100% greater then
the average R-12 wall that is insulated on the inside.

Environmentally
friendly
By
reducing the heat loss from the home, fuel consumption is reduced. This
has two silver linings, one is lower heating bills and two, generations
long after will benefit from, less green house emissions. Not to mention
the indoor air quality will be far superior to that of a home with moist
ground water infiltration and cold concrete foundation walls.
Is your Interior complete?
Adding additional insulation and
waterproofing the foundation can be done with out touching the interior
of the basement. With the exception of adding a sump pump.
The sump pump can be added to any area of
the basement providing a connection to the weeping tile can be made and
a discharge outlet can be installed to the outside of the house. A
electrical circuit is required to operate the discharge pump.
Typical Home
There is no typical home type, size or
age. All poorly waterproofed and insulated homes built in Alberta will benefit from this system.
The solutions may range from close proximity removal of trees with
destructive roots, diverting surface water or engineered foundation
and footing underpinning. Homes can include newly created walk out
basements with subterranean terraces that require engineered
underpinning to support the new frost level changes to the existing
footings.
Basement repair and Foundation Envelope System
Winters and springs in Edmonton bring stress and moisture to concrete
foundations. Never apply interior insulation to a concrete basement
foundation with moisture problems. Fix the basement foundation moisture entry problems before
developing the interior.
