When developing your basement there are considerations you should keep
in mind. For rooms that you wish to be allocated as bedrooms, you will
require egress in case of an emergency.
You will need a smoke detector located in a central area close to the bedrooms or in a bedroom hall or basement corridor. In any case a smoke detector should be installed in the basement.
Your design can include trim work, cabinetry or even a cozy fireplace with mantel. Someone
in 1970 told your dad and mine that we needed access to the plumbing
and heating pipes of the basement level and just in case we needed
to run speaker wires and other stuff, we should use a panelized
ceiling. If this is true then why do we not have panelized ceiling
on the main floor of two story home? In jest I make this statement,
the choice should be for other reasons other then access, you will
loose 3-5 inches in height, and on a basement with with seven foot
eight inch high ceiling that is a lot. Panelized T-bar ceiling have
there place and I believe can look as good a anything else,
Moisture is a villain, So ensure proper procedures are followed before beginning to develop the space.
